Publication supports implementation of the 2030 Agenda by expanding access to actionable, city tested solutions for climate resilient and equitable urban water system management.
Press Release
Chicago, Illinois – December 5, 2025
Environmental & Public Health International® (EPHI) announced that its Lead Service Line Replacement Cost Calculator® (LSLRCC) has been published as a case study by the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform, jointly managed by CityNet and supported by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
The publication expands access to practical tools that advance equitable and climate resilient drinking water infrastructure across the Asia Pacific region.
Strengthening Regional Knowledge Sharing for the SDGs
The Urban SDG Knowledge Platform, established by UNESCAP, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and CityNet, serves as a regional mechanism for advancing knowledge sharing and city-to-city cooperation for sustainable urban development. The Platform supports local implementation of the 2030 Agenda by providing a repository of municipal policies, initiatives, and good practices, and by facilitating north-south, south-south, and triangular cooperation.
Through this United Nations affiliated network, cities exchange actionable solutions that address climate impacts, strengthen public health protection, and promote resilient, inclusive, and sustainable urban development.
Supporting Cities Under Increasing Climate Related Water System Stress
Many cities in the Asia Pacific region are experiencing growing pressure on water systems driven by climate change, rapid urbanization, and aging infrastructure. CityNet plays a central role in advancing intercity cooperation, elevating proven technical partnerships that have strengthened drinking water quality and utility performance.
These experiences underscore the importance of shared knowledge, capacity building, and data driven planning for climate resilient and sustainable urban water management.
LSLRCC Partnership for Climate Resilient Drinking Water Infrastructure
The Lead Service Line Replacement Cost Calculator is a free, multilingual modeling tool that assists governments, utilities, and community leaders in planning and estimating the cost of lead service line replacement. By advancing safer water access, infrastructure equity, and climate adaptation planning, the tool aligns with ongoing regional efforts to strengthen public health protection.
Its publication on the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform supports a shared commitment to expanding practical, evidence-based resources for cities working to build climate resilient and secure drinking water systems.
“We commend the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform for strengthening regional knowledge sharing that advances climate resilient and equitable urban infrastructure. CityNet and UNESCAP continue to demonstrate essential leadership in supporting local capacity, and we look forward to contributing to their ongoing efforts to advance the Sustainable Development Goals,” said Anthony Ross, Director of Environmental & Public Health International.
