Environmental & Public Health International Signs UN Global Compact WASH Pledge, Advancing Safe Drinking Water and Climate Action
The commitment strengthens global efforts to promote universal access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) while advancing climate-resilient public health systems worldwide.
Press Release
Chicago, Illinois – November 8, 2025
Environmental & Public Health International (EPHI), a leader in drinking water training and a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)–recognized innovator in climate-resilient water infrastructure, has formally signed the United Nations Global Compact WASH Pledge. This action reaffirms EPHI’s commitment to advancing universal access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) across its operations and in the communities it serves.
Supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
By signing the WASH Pledge, EPHI commits to implementing the WASH4Work principles, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-Being, and SDG 13 on Climate Action.
“Access to safe drinking water is both a human right and a foundation for climate-resilient public health,” said Anthony Ross, Director of EPHI. “Our WASH Pledge signature strengthens our global commitment to transparency, sustainability, and equity across the water sector.”
Leadership in Drinking Water Training and Public Health
EPHI is a leader in drinking water training, with a focus on lessons from the Flint Water Crisis. EPHI’s training program supports efforts to improve drinking water quality and protect public health at the federal, state, and local levels.
The organization provides specialized training to federal regulators, state primacy agencies, and public water system operators, using real-world lessons from Flint to strengthen safe drinking water practices and help prevent future public health crises.
Global Recognition for Climate-Resilient Drinking Water Infrastructure
EPHI’s work aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Its Lead Service Line Replacement Cost Calculator (LSLRCC) is recognized by UNEP for advancing safe drinking water equity, climate-resilient water infrastructure, and public health.
In addition to being a United Nations Global Compact WASH Pledge Signatory, EPHI has pledged under the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, further strengthening its commitment to expanding access to safe drinking water and advancing public health worldwide.
Founded on Experience and Impact
EPHI was founded by Anthony Ross, who brings over 12 years of experience with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). As EPA’s Flint Safe Drinking Water Act Emergency Coordinator, Ross played a pivotal role in ensuring safe drinking water for the people of Flint during one of the nation’s most significant public health emergencies.
